Synopsis:
To cure himself of the boredom of Lisbon, Henrique de Souzelas visits
is auntie Doroteia, in a picturesque village of Minho, where he is
attracted by his young and beautiful cousin Madalena. She, however,
loves Augusto, the professor of the children of the family, which leads
to certain misunderstandings or ironic friction, that dilutes the
political turmoil experienced from Councillor Manuel Bernardes, father
of Madalena, and their opponents on the ground. In the outline of a
mutiny against the new law on compulsory burial in cemeteries, Henrique
de Souzelas is injured, and convalesce in the care of Christina, his
cousin and of Magdalene, who favors the relationship ...
